4.0 stars HOSTMONSTER GREAT FOR START-UP, DECENT LONG TERM

I've used Hostmonster for going on 4 years now. I have over 6 domains with them. The fantastico delux from Cpanel is great for start-ups or those tinkering. Their transfer and database up/download is incredibly easy and always available. Other Hosts I have used have made the domain management so difficult or tedious I did not stay with them. The spam assassin isn't great. You really have to read up and learn how to write your own spam protocols to keep the spam down. This is one of their flaws. Lack of quality email spam software. I have yet to fill the invisible quota with my 7 domains, 2 of which being image heavy. 9 databases later I couldn't be more pleased with that aspect. There are times when it seems high bandwidth slows down site availability... but this hasn't happened in a while, and I believe the problem has been worked on. I have used their customer service/tech support 2ce. Both times a CSR called me (<1 hour delay) and walked me through the problem.

my sites go offline about 3 times a month due to the mysql failures, my only call into tech support was about 3 mins on hold, tech tells me the server i'm on is not on generator power (some transformer blew up), oh well i paid about 60 bucks for the year. if you don't mind some down time here and there i guess the service is ok.

I'm really surprised to see all the negative reviews. I've been with Host Monster since June of 2007 and haven't had any problems like the ones listed. I have a business and a personal site hosted with them. Down time is non-existent and I use FTP for everything. I use MySQL and PHP as well as html. I think that some of the reviews are written by people using an unfair amount of BW and space and when they are shut down they complain. This is a great host. I like that I can pay once a year vs. monthly. It's auto-renewable which means one less thing I have to worry about. I've had to call them twice when I first started hosting with them. The phone was answered within three rings and they were helpful and polite. I will continue to recommend Host Monster to my friends looking for a hosting solution. I've been happy with them for 18 months.

I have been using hostmonster for a couple of domains for a few years now. Although the web hosting is satisfactory, email has been a constant problem. They have Spam Assassin, but it is setup incorrectly. Bayes is not working and they refuse to implement it. Also they have no interest in offering any other spam filters (ie Grey Listing) other than Postini, which in my opinion does a poor job at best.

I have found them to be a very good hosting company for me I have been with them for 2 yrs now and the 2 times I did have my site go down they were right on it and had it back up within 2 hrs the only reason for that was they had some software go bad I cant blame them for that.

I design sites but only recently went "to the source" on hosting so as a non techy I found customer suppor to be excellent and the price awesome. then i found out that my original host is using host monster and charging me $80.00 per month!!! glad I wen online and found hostmonster

I simply can't say enough good things about Hostmonster. If you can see the review ratings I just filled in, I gave them a 5 out of a possible 5 rating on every criteria. If there was a way to rate them 10 out of 5, I'd do that too. I am SO impressed with their customer service reps and tech support reps alike I am constantly recommending HostMonster to my friends and colleagues. What a refreshing change from (I won't mention actual names but maybe you'll guess), GoFlatty where you are constantly solicited to upgrade, add on or prepay on every tech support call and then cheerfully ask if they can send you a survey - OR OLN who still uses faxes to update credit card information for hosting accounts - and well the list is 12 deep over the last 12 years. Thankfully I did some serious research and asking around in a lot of web design forums etc this time, and the people in the trenches told me "HOST MONSTER" Dude! You'll never look back. Hostmonster is a US company with their customer support IN the US. Many other servers offer unlimited storage and transfer, but do not support streaming media. Hostmonster does. As one of the top hosting companies for their price, I have found only three downfalls 1- although permitting streaming media, for other tasks, there is *limited CPU usage per request, 2- *physical location of servers are all in one place (with low possibility of destruction due to natural disaster) -3 limited number of databases. IF you can overlook those three details, Hostmonster has the best customer service and features for the price.

I like Hostmonster. I think they provide a fair service for the price. The only thing that matters to me is that my websites work and are not too slow. So far, it's been a year I'm hosted at hostmonster and my webpages are usually loading fairly quickly.

I've been with HostMonster.com for about a year. I can honestly say I am always surprised by their high level of tech support--troubleshooting things like a Symfony installation using CLI--just stuff you wouldn't expect such an inexpensive host to do! They even resolved my issue installing Interspire software within a matter of minutes. If you're looking for best value with good support--I highly recommend HostMonster.com. If you need a higher level of control over your environment, I suggest looking at a higher priced dedicated host.

Hm. Don't understand the extreme negatives either. I've had them for almost 2 years and use a lot of PHP and MySQL in my pages. Downtime is neglible, and something I would expect for a shared server at $5.95 a month! Customer service and support is easily reached, both by Live Chat AND phone, never had to wait more than 5 minutes. Unless there's an outage of course, but try reaching AT&T when that happens. Was shut out for about 10 minutes one time because of CPU overload. Found the error in my script that caused it and never had a problem since. Love their user interface. Cpanel works wonderfully and they always have the latest versions of anything. Much more so than the other hosts I'm also working with. Really, no regrets so far. I would recommend them to anyone who's running a non e-commerce site. If you depend on your server for business, you really think you can get away with paying only $5.95 a month?
